Produce your Electricity using Balloons

By Sean Conroy - Posted on 18 April 2008

A company called SunHope has come up with a balloon you can use to produce electricity. These balloons are made of a photo reactive skin which acts like a solar panel.

These balloons are tethered to a structure, then have an electrical cable and a helium tube run to each balloon. It is estimated that these balloons can stay in the air up to a year without requiring any maintenance.

The target price of these balloons is around $4,000 each, which is less than half of what a typical solar array producing the same amount ofelectricity would cost.

These would be great in emergency situations, or in places where electricity is not readily available, such as an Island or ship.
