Private Reserve Program Helps to Save Rain Forrest

By Sean Conroy - Posted on 24 April 2008

An Organization called the Private Reserve Program has been working with farmers in South America to connect fragments of Rain Forrest.

This is beneficial, because fragments of Rain Forests don't allow for biodiversity. Using satellite imaging, the Private nature reserve plans out corridors to connect the rain forest fragments, then works with the land owners to create permanent nature reserves. Not only is it good for the native plant and wild life, it is also beneficial to the farmers. One farmer who was interviewed mentioned that he use to have trouble getting enough water, but since they created the reserve he has already noticed an increase in the amount of water available.

So far the Private Reserve Program has created 10 such reserves, and they are working on creating 10 more.
