How many people could you help if you could re-grow a limb?
In recent years there have been major advances in the area of tissue regeneration. A recent example of this is in the case of Lee Speivack.
Lee Spievack removed approximately half an inch from the tip of his finger three years ago due to an accident building model airplanes. Luckily his brother was a medical researcher who was working on tissue regeneration.
His brother provided him with a "Magic Powder" made from pig bladder called "Extracellular Matrix". This powder stimulates the stem cells around the affected tissue.
After only a few weeks, Lee had completely re-grown his finger tip complete with Nerves, vessels and the finger nail.
Researchers are confident that this could one day lead to the ability to re-grow entire organs, or limbs.
